“If you want to accomplish anything in life, you can’t just sit back and hope it will happen. You’ve got to make it happen.” – Chuck Norris.
I was relaxing the other day watching Gold Rush Alaska on the Discovery Channel. The show is about six men willing to risk everything to strike it rich mining for gold in the wilds of Alaska. Throughout the show their attitude is gold is just inches from their fingers and with a little more effort they will dig it up and be rich. I sat in my comfortable couch, dog by my side, kids playing and the wife is checking her email, thinking to myself “Boy, are these people crazy. They are delusional in their thinking that they can find gold and achieve financial wealth when so many others have tried and failed. On top of this, they have no experience in gold mining.”
Taking a chance is part of life and these people are doing more than watching TV, they have a plan. They are living their life and are making a new start which has set their soul on fire. It may be gold fever, but they are motivated to do what few people in the world have tried.
I watched three shows in a row and learned that as crazy as it seems they have a plan and are doing their best to commit mentally, physically and financially to this goal. They gather strength and purpose from family and fellow miners. They understand that if they work together, they can achieve greatness and must stay motivated.
These people aren’t sitting watching TV on the couch; they are actually working to reach a goal. No matter how crazy I think they are for risking it all to mine for gold, they are actually doing it. It shows attitudes often determine our behavior, including the choices we make and the amount of risk we are willing to take.
I’m not sure if these people are going to reach the mother lode, but their imagination of riches motivates them forward each and every day. Look at your dreams and make a plan to find the gold nugget that motivates you to take the change and go for it. You’re the only one that can make it happen.
